Ken Smith / Burner 6- String ** ON HOLD ** / 1993 / Trans Blue / Bass

When we get a bass guitar here in the Elkcave that looks shiny and new, I already know the deal: It's not been loved nor has it put in any time. No hot, sweaty stages, never getting leaned up against an amp after a smokey set and never bumping into a drummer's cymbal, which always leaves a mark. No, the pristine basses are lonesome soldiers that have never seen war and have never felt to gratification of filling up a dance floor with shaking bootys. On the other hand, we sometimes see a battle- scarred warrior of long nights past and from the instant you pick it up, you can just tell that it's already broken in and ready to go at a moment's notice. Such is the case with this Burner 6 from Ken Smith. I still find it hard to believe that you can own a 6- string bass of this quality for around $1200.00. The neck is thin, exceptionally easy to play and the range of this bass is so great, I would tune it like a standard guitar and play chords on it (what do I know- I'm just a 4- banger). There are many pick scratches on the front and light belt squiggles on the back and these tell me that this bass has delivered the goods, day in, day out and night after night. Somewhere and sometime, a bass player has strapped this Burner over his shoulder and did what bass players do best: hold that bottom end down. Now, the time has come for it to find a new owner and once again, bring the boom to the room or, "low end with a dammed attitude" as we like to say around here. Affordable quality that arrives ready to go- ain't that a rare thing these days? Call us and find out how we do things 'Elk style and realize that maybe the above ain't quite so rare after all down here in Atlanta...
