From the company’s launch in 1976 until the early ’80s, Kramer used aluminum necks with wooden inserts for its guitars and basses. The DMZ series was the second wave of Kramer basses which launched in 1978. Like other aluminum-based Kramers, the DMZ basses were phased out as Kramer shifted to more economical wooden necks.

This c.1982 Kramer DMZ 6000 bass is an unabashed rocker. It sounds great played with fingers, but comes alive when played with a pick—bright and aggressive with piano-like clarity and authority. It features a T-style aluminum-neck with walnut inserts (to give it a more organic feel than an all-aluminum neck) and split headstock. The neck is topped with a “Fretless” Ebanol fingerboard (man made compound) with pearl crown inlays.

The body is equally striking, with a solid birdseye maple center and solid, burled walnut wings with German-carved top and belly-contoured back. A maple/walnut/maple trim stripe around the rim gives it even more class.

Passive DiMarzio P/J pickups run through 2 x Volume, 2 x Tone controls and a 3-way selector , plus each pickup has a Series/Parallel switch. The bridge is a Badass top-mount with adjustable saddles.

What a cool bass Kramer used to produce in the late 70’s thru the mid-80’s w/their innovative Aluminum necks that are impossible to overlook and have a feel, tone, stability, and sustain that is incomparable to anything else. This example is their top of the line w/their best wood selection & is a rare Fretless model having no frets but does have fret lines for accurate playing. Its truly in exceptional shape & comes in a nice original hard case.
