Martin / 0-21 / 1920 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
Introduced in the late 19th century the 0-21 was Martin's most affordable Rosewood model retailing at a price of $44.00. It shared the same quality tonewoods as Martin's higher-end models of the period, but with more subtle, refined appointments.
This example has beautifully figured, straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and a tight-grained Appalachian Spruce top. It's lightweight construction, X-bracing and thin Maple bridge plate allow this guitar to really sing, with superb volume and dynamics. The tone is harmonically rich and sweet; a delight to play fingerstyle and well balanced if strummed too. The neck profile is a fairly strong V typical of the period, which allows good support and plenty of access especially with the wide nut. It has been refretted with bar frets, the neck has been reset and the guitar is well setup, with room on the saddle for further adjustment.
The Ebony pyramid bridge is a well made repro. There is evidence of work around the bridge area with the footprint of a previously installed larger bridge visible. The guitar has also been refinished as part of it's restoration, and some of the braces appear to have been reglued in the past. The standard of work is very good and the guitar is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.
This is a superb, well cared for and maintained example that even includes it's original leather hand-tooled case. A picture perfect set, a wonderful instrument and a fantastic piece of Martin history.
