Martin / 00-40H Ex-Steve Howe From The Chinery Collection / 1936 / Natural / Guitar For Sale
This is something quite special and something you do not stumble across on a daily basis...
This is an original 1936 Martin 00-40H that has been converted by Dave King - the UK's finest vintage Martin specialist - to a standard 00-40. No other repairs had to be done and it has not been refinished or re-topped.
This was originally part of Scott Chinery's famous collection when it was a 00-40H. Scott being a big fan of Steve Howe's (Yes, Asia, ABWH etc) playing, gave this to Steve a few years ago. Before Steve owned it, Scott had the fingerboard inlaid with some rather spectacular motifs (see last pic) but this proved to ba a bit of a hinderance to playing! This guitar was used on a track Steve played on but it never made it to the final mix.
Steve then sent the guitar to Dave King to be converted to a regular Martin 00-40 with a proper fingerboard with perfect inlays and a superb fret job and the result is quite spectacular as we hope you can see.
The guitar is extremely resonant with a lot of sustain and is a finger picker's delight that has lots of projection. This is the golden era for vintage Martins and anyone who has played a 40 style from the mid 30's will testify to this.
Included is what we believe to be the original case. There are no cracks or repairs that we can see and the guitar is in superb, original shape. The tuners look as if they may have replaced with open back Grover style tuners and work really well. These are the same tuners that were on it when it was in the Chinery Collection.
It is currently set up with bronze wounds with a really nice action and is perfectly playable all the way up the neck. Included is the original nut and saddle.
This is probably the nicest example around and with its cool history will make a quite an addition to anyone's collection...
