Martin / 018 / 1953 / Guitar

This 1953 Martin 0018 is a guitar that will attract attention at first sight. The guitar exudes a wonderful charm and, judging by the marks on the top and the soundboard, has obviously been played a lot over the years. As far as we are concerned, this is always a good sign, as it is of course always the good guitars that get played a lot! And whether this little Martin is good, because the guitar is extremely resonant and has that typical dry and woody sound that only a vintage instrument can give you. The Martin 0018 was introduced as early as 1898, and had a 12-fret neck construction at the time. During the 1930s, Martin switched to the model we still know today, with a 14-fret construction in other words. The V-shaped mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard, as became standard on Martin's 18-series from 1940 onwards. In Martin's rich history, the story surrounding the Mystery Tops is one of the most interesting. After Martin initially switched from Adirondack spruce to Sitka spruce in the mid-1940s, a scarcity of this type of wood arose in the years after World War II. Martin managed to get its hands on other spruce, and used it to produce some of its guitars in 1953. Which wood was used for each guitar was hardly documented, if at all, and therein lies the mystery! This 1953 Martin 018 features a non-scalloped X-bracing supported Adirondack spruce top and a mahogany soundboard, and the latter has undergone some repairs over the years. For instance, some cracks on both sides of the side of the body have been repaired with the lacquer being touched up. Furthermore, the guitar is very playable due to a refret and neck reset, and this 018 still has the original pickguard and tuners. Furthermore, the guitar has the playing marks and craquelé that make this 018 a beautiful vintage guitar!

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
