Martin / 2 1/2-18 / 1896 / Guitar

Because what a beautiful and lively sound these little Martins have that gives the music played a convincing narrative quality. Thanks to the rosewood back and sides, the guitar has the warmth that makes this 2 1/2, together with the bright projection of the spruce top, a fingerstyle guitar par excellence. Despite its small size, the guitar also has more than enough volume, which is not surprising considering its role in music history. Parlor guitars appeared in the late 18th century, and got their name from the fact that they were often played in intimate settings in saloons. The guitars also came into their own in smaller halls and saloons, until guitarists desired larger guitars with more volume and the parlor guitar lost its prominent place in the guitar world. That this 2 1/2 is already 128 years old is hard to imagine, because how beautiful this guitar still looks! The guitar is marked in three places with a stamp from its famous manufacturer; on the heel block and the centre strip inside the body it says C.F. Martin & Co. New York, while on the back of the headstock C.F Martin New York is imprinted, as was customary up to and including 1898. Until 1917, Martin's 18-style guitars had a rosewood back and sides, and so does this 2 1/2. The spruce top is adorned by a rosewood binding with subdued purfling and a rope-patterned rosette. The ebony bridge is fitted with a new bone bridge saddle, while on the ebony fingerboard a partial refret has been performed higher up the fingerboard. This graceful Martin is undoubtedly a fascinating piece of musical history, but is certainly not ready to end up in a museum; this guitar, with its beautiful sound, just wants to be played! ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
