Originally designed as part of the Germanic tradition of "terz" guitars, it was intended to be tuned to a minor third higher than standard pitch, ideal for solo performances and harmony work. This instrument gained further recognition in the 1950s and '60s, thanks to its association with Marty Robbins, who frequently utilized its distinctive sound on stage. Constructed with a mahogany neck, back, and sides, and a Sitka spruce top (they ditched the Adirondack on post-war models), this 5-18 delivers remarkable volume and projection, characteristic of instruments with a well-designed ratio of air-chamber size to pitch. We're selling this guitar 'Sold As Is', which means it's certainly playable, but not in best state it can be in. There's a crack emerging on the headstock near the high E on the treble side, the top has a few repaired cracks and there's a large patch of mahogany on the bass-side of the lower bout. Besides that the entire body has been refinished and the top has had an overspray. The neck angle of the guitar isn't great at this point, mainly due to the bridge angle not being correct due to its belly. We're happy to put in the work for you and the costs would probably amount to roughly €600,-. As mentioned before though, this instrument is absolutely playable in its current state and actually has a lovely voice. It's quite tough to play on the higher frets, but the loose scale length makes it easier and I'd even recommend tuning down to F for an even smoother playability! 108792 remains a cherished vintage guitar, offering a unique voice and a piece of musical history to its fortunate owner.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
