Martin / 5-18 Terz / 1957 / Guitar

The 'Terz' designation adds a layer of fascination to this instrument. Derived from the Italian word for "third", 'Terz' denotes an instrument tuned a minor third higher than standard pitch. This unique tuning not only imparts a bright and articulate character to the sound but also invites exploration and creativity in musical expression, the perfect tool for a musician struggling with "writer's block". Central to its allure is the enigmatic 'Mystery Top', a feature found in Martin guitars produced in 1953 and between 1957 and 1962. As the name suggests, the origin of this top wood remains shrouded in mystery, inviting speculation and curiosity. While it's anyone's guess (although legend says Martin kept this info in their shop notes from 1957-onward), our conjecture leans towards the revered Adirondack (Red) Spruce, known for its unmatched tonal qualities and resonance. This is mainly due to yellow-ish discolouration which is so typical for Red Spruce. Crafted in 1957, this Martin Terz embodies the essence of Martin's craftsmanship and innovation and can still be witnessed in its original form (apart from the replaced bridge & saddle). It even travels in its original case! Though its short journey through Adrian's hands in our repair shop included a few re-glued bindings, its soulful resonance remains untouched, echoing with the melodies of bygone eras. Whether you're a musician seeking inspiration or a collector drawn to the allure of vintage craftsmanship, embrace the opportunity to own a piece of musical history and embark on a journey of sonic discovery with this illustrious '57 Martin Terz.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
