Martin / D-28 / 1955 / Natural / Guitar
This is the best sounding, playing and one of the best looking vintage original 1955 Martin Brazillian Rosewood D-28’s that I have come across in many years.
It is not mint but it is totally crack free and just shows signs of wear by the pick guard and sound hole. I have checked inside, it is sound structually and does hae the all important small maple bridge plate which has a brass extension to make it slightly brighter but this can be easily removed if required however, I would seriously try it out as it is before you make this decision as it is just a joy to hear and play. Definitely one of the best I have had for many years...
It has been refretted which means the newer frets are good for some tiime and ther only signs of touch up I can see is just by the neck joint where an extra strap button was located, this small area has been filled and touched up very professionally. There is NO breakage in that area at all! There are a few dings here and there, plus the usual lacquer checking all over but nothing too serious at all. Finish is original and turned a lovely honey colour on the top and dark Brazillian on the back and sides.
As you can see from the photos, the Brazillian rosewood is fantastic, chocolate coloured grain and is nice and dark. It really is quite a beautiful instrument.
Tone of this amazing instrument is stunning, it is classic, vintage Brazillian rosewood 56 year old Martin tone - you will struggle to find finer and if you are after a vintage Martin D-28 tone machine with Brazillian rosewood then I doubt if you will find a finer example from 1955. Action is surperb and easy to play at under 3mm on bass side at 12th fret and even less on the treble side and there is still some room for adjustment on the saddle. There is no way it needs any kind of work or neck set, it really is lovely..!
Tuners are original and are totally correct for the year having never been off the guitar. Case is original Glieb hard case with green which is also in good condition, but one of the latches does not work.
