Martin / D-28 / 1958 / Natural / Guitar

This is a SUPERB vintage original 1958 Martin Brazillian Rosewood D-28 that has seen a bit of action, is not for anyone seeking a mint example but sounds totally brilliant with its vinage Brazillian rosewood tone and is keenly priced compared to mint examples. This is THE classic Martin to have from an era which sadly has now passed, when you play this and appreciate the tone that exudes you can understand why these are so sought after.

As you can see by the pictures, it has been played, there are dings and marks all over - it is not a museam piece, it is a guitar that has been played and has seen a fair bit of action. I have checked inside, it is sound structually and does hae the all important small maple bridge plate.

There are a few well repaired cracks on this, there are the usual cracks by the pickguard that has been caused by shrinkage. There are a couple of other small ones on the top - one at the bottom of the lower bout (small) plus a tiny one just behind the bridge that may have had something stuck there as you can see it looks like it has been rubbed by something in a circulair motion. This, whatever it was, has not penetrated the top and is invisible from inside. There is also an extremely well repaird crack on the side by the neck joint. It is impossible to photo and almost invisible with the naked eye apart from bit were a small amount of stain has been taken off for some reason. I am sure this can be touched up, please see the photo of this.

As you can see from the photos, the Brazillian rosewood is fantastic, chocolate coloured grain and is nice and dark. It really is quite a beautiful instrument.

Tone of this amazing instrument is stunning, it is classic, vintage Brazillian rosewood 56 year old Martin tone - you will struggle to find finer and if you are after a vintage Martin D-28 tone machine with Brazillian rosewood at an affordable price then this is it. Action is reasonable at 3.5mm on bass side at 12th fret and 3.2mm on the treble side and there is still some room for adjustment on the saddle.

Tuners are original pat pend Grovers that are totally correct for the year and have never been off the guitar. Serial number is 163838 which dates to 1958. Case is original Glieb hard case with green which is also in good condition, but just like the guitar, it has been around a bit and it shows!
