Martin / D-28 / 1968 / Natural / Guitar
This is a superb sounding, playing and reanably priced Brazilian Martin - it is a vintage original 1968 Martin Brazillian Rosewood D-28 and includes the original, blue thermo moulded Martin case.
It is not mint but it is all structually sound. As is often the case with this period of Martin the pickguard warped and caused a 2” crack on the top. This has been profesionally repaired, you can hardly notice it and is totally stable. The pickguard was replaced with a newer, non warped variety but should you wish to reinstate the original it is in the case pocket. There are no other cracks anywhere
Finish is original as is I think everything else apart from the saddle that has been replaced with a compensated type, bridge looks original. The neck set is perfect and is a joy to play. There are a few dings here and there plus some wear by the pick guard, sound hole and some arm wear on the upper bout. Top is a gorgeous straght, wide grained spruce and is quite light so it may possibly be adirondack. Back of the neck does have some wear and some marks but again nothing out of the ordinary for a played, but loved, vintage Martin.
As you can see from the photos, the Brazillian rosewood has fantastic, chocolate coloured grain and is nice and rich. It really is quite a beautiful instrument.
Tone of this amazing instrument is stunning, it is classic, vintage Brazillian rosewood 47 year old Martin tone - you will struggle to find finer and if you are after a vintage Martin D-28 tone machine with Brazillian rosewood then I doubt if you will find a finer example from 1961. Action is surperb and easy to play at under 3mm on bass side at 12th fret and even less on the treble side and there is still some room for adjustment on the saddle. There is no way it needs any kind of work or neck set, it really is lovely..!
Tuners are original and are totally correct for the year having never been off the guitar. Case is the classic blue thermo moulded Martin case that even still has the handle intact and the logo too. There is some kind of passive pickup installed inside which does sound pretty good, the jack socket is on the end pin as usual.
