Martin / D-28 Herringbone / 1945 / Guitar

Martin D-28 Herringbone (1945) Excellent condition, original Case

We are pleased to offer this early 1945 Martin D-28 Herringbone, Definitely one of the biggest sounding D-28 ever in our shop,  totally crack-free and with a pleasent neck. Features Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Adi top with wonderful ambered patina. The Brazilian Rosewood that is likely cut in the early 1900s maybe even before that, shows a quarter-sawn and straight-grain structure with beautiful spider webbing, and is fully legal since it's been in Europe for ages. (proof of purchase pre-1992 available)

The neck is very pleasant large very soft V - with fat wings that makes them comfortable and enjoyable for most players, further up the neck the neck rounds to a respectable C shape. The finish is wonderful condition, although on close inspection several traces of wear can be found this guitar, but is all in all simply ridiculously clean. Checking on the history of this guitar, there is mentioned that the guitar seen a Martin Factory neck reset, and possibly some work done to the finish at the same time in the sixties, we haven't found proof under black-light, it's simply too long ago. The Bridge plate is correct size but is rosewood instead with a sheet of maple under it. Replaced pickguard and tuners (that are also sixties) and perfect replica bridge. All repair work -with exception of pickguard - are typical of decent CF Martin restoration work from the 1950s and 1960.  This is a perfect flat-picking guitar for medium strings, with full-height bridge, and a saddle that is almost on full height.

The old bridge-plate is reinforced with a small sheet of carbon to give grip to the pins, the sheet of carbon is lightly glued and can be taken of any time.  We only found 3 tiny spots of retouch around that bridge that are hardly visible with the bare eye. The neck has some light wear from capo use, and there is some thumb wear to the side of the neck, again hardly visible with the bare eye.

If you are looking for a very clean collectible herringbone this one should definitely in your book, we haven't seen a cleaner or better sounding, It's deep, heart-warming and passionate, loud and growling, extremely powerful with cannon like projection. This is a guitar that proves with one strum that you are in for a marriage for life. The deep bass and round almost magic rounded trebles are typically Brazilian rosewood tonal qualities that brings a unknown magic to the tone if you never experienced this before. This guitar breaths tone and begins to sing as soon as the wind touches the strings. Comes with the original Lifton hard shell case. The hard-case is in reasonable condition and shows a few marks of life.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
