Martin / D-45 Mike Longworth / 2005 / Natural / Guitar For Sale

Meticulously crafted 2005 Martin D-45 Mike Longworth - a tribute to one of Martin Guitar's most influential craftsmen, known for his pivotal role in revitalising the company's  focus on intricate inlay work. The Mike Longworth D-45 run was limited to 91 commemorating the year Longworth retired from the company. This is a stunning example and is #23 in the series.

The combination of premium materials, craftsmanship, historical significance, and legendary sound make this model one of Martin's top-tier guitars. Features include a Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back & sides, Ebony bridge and fingerboard all meticulously constructed with extraordinary care, reflecting the precision and artistry that Mike Longworth himself was known for in his work at Martin.

The D-45 is the pinnacle of Martin's craftsmanship, known for its intricate Style 45 Abalone inlays, including the Abalone purfling around the body, rosette, historically significant snowflake fingerboard inlays and torch headstock inlay. These appointments are not just decorative but serve as a mark of the highest quality instruments that Martin offers.

The forward-shifted, scalloped X-bracing allows the top to vibrate more freely, resulting in greater volume, better resonance, and enhanced tonal balance. The combination of Sitka Spruce and Rosewood, along with Martin’s precise bracing, makes the guitar incredibly dynamic. It responds equally well to soft fingerpicking or aggressive strumming, making it versatile across various musical styles.

With only 91 models made, the Mike Longworth D-45 is a rare instrument, highly sought after by collectors not just for its sound but for its connection to one of Martin's most influential craftsmen.

This is a very nice example in excellent condition. It has signs of light playing over the years and some minor fret pitting to be expected, but it has clearly been well taken care of. It comes complete with its original case, however some of the Tolex has been removed from part of the bottom edge.

Not only is this a fine instrument in its own right but also a collectible piece of Martin's rich history. It's an excellent reflection of Mike Longworth's commitment to fine craftsmanship, elegance, innovation, and a fitting tribute to the man who helped preserve and enhance the legacy of Martin Guitars.
