Martin / D18 / 1966 / Guitar

Martin D18, 1966. This is a particularly nice D18, in original and crack free condition. Between say 1947 and 1965 Martin changed almost nothing to the D18, but around 1966 they started with small changes, like the body binding that went from tortoise to black, in 1965 it already lost the long saddle, in favor of the drop in saddle. But in 1966 it still holds the tortoise pickguard, the T-bar, and the maple bridge plate that were changed in 1967 and 1968. So what we are looking at here, is a guitar that is still on the 'good side' of the changes. Knowning this, you look at this guitar with different eyes. It's still more or less the same guitar that was made in 1947. And it's a particular nice example, very clean as well, with some dings and dongs, and the wear of an almost 55 year old guitar, but still, very clean for it's age. The bridge has been changed, and it seen a neck reset quite long ago, and also the frets are changed at a certain point, and along with it the nut, saddle and pins have been changed. But otherwise its a real great guitar and top fit. With original finish throughout, original Grover patent tuners, with a good action, Nicely rounded c neck, that might be considered firm, with 43mm or 1-11/16" nut width and an older case, that is certainly not original. How do old Martin D18 sound, well what can i say, anyone who ever played one, wants one. !  Specifications: Body Shape: Dreadnought Finish: nitro cellulose natural Body Material: Solid Mahogany Top Material: Solid Sitka spruce Lefty No Body Details: Style 18 black body bindings and style 18 trim, Tortoise pickguard,  maple bridge plate, drop in saddle Neck Material: Mahogany Neck Profile: Moderate to firm c Fingerboard Material: Rosewood Fingerboard Radius: 16” Neck Details: Style 18 pearl dot inlay, rosewood fingerboard and headstock overlay Nutwidth: 43 mm - 1 11/16" Scale Length: 645 mm - 25 3/8" String spacing: 55 mm - 2 3/16" Bridge: Rosewood Belly - drop in Saddle Tuners: Grover patent pending Pickup None Condition: Used  Cosmetic Condition: 55 years of play wear, no cracks Modifications/ Repairs: None Tech Notes: None Travels in: Older hardshell case Accessories: None

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
