Martin / D18 David Crosby / 2002 / Guitar

Who can say they've produced singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell’s first album, joined forces with Stephen Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Graham Nash from the Hollies to create Crosby, Stills and Nash, all áfter leaving the Byrds in 1967? Well, the only correct answer is David Crosby. When Martin approached Crosby to make a limited, signature guitar for him, he had to honor his old vintage D18. This was the first Martin he'd ever owned and which he continued to play up through the early days of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Famously this D18 was stolen from him whilst being in a rehab facility, only for Graham Nash to eventually confront the thief at his own doorstep, offering him two choices: "Take a couple thousand dollars and hand over the guitar or end up in a puddle of blood on your doorstep." The man turned over the guitar. With David's since ever-growing affinity with CF Martin Guitars, I can imagine him wanting a unique and more luxurious take on his classic D18 model. Therefor, they went for stunning Quilted Mahogany back & sides, a tightly grained (and slightly flamed) Engelmann Spruce top and some gorgeous Abalone details like his signature on the fretboard and his own (!) sailing ship on the headstock. The unique details that finish it for me are the Multi-Stripe/Faux Tortoise bindings and the Faux Tortoise heelcap. This played-in instrument sounds wonderfully deep, with a pleasantly direct tone. The Engelmann Spruce top ensure this guitar has a bit more of that 'vintage' feel over a Sitka top, whilst also being more responsive to fingerstyle playing. It's also not as loud as other, older D18s might get, making it a great songwriters guitar that's great for accompaniment. Although being from 2002, it barely has any playing marks. The only real visible playing marks are above the pick guard, and slightly above the bridge. Otherwise this D18DC is practically as new, especially compared to other 22-year-old guitars! It comes in its original Geib-style Hardshell Case, with a humidifier pack and a TFOA Passport. #203/250, played by Niek Jurjens. Eight years ago now, we had number 203 of the 250, a slightly later model from exactly the same series. Although it is a different instrument, the wood is clearly from the same batch and this slightly outdated demo still gives a good idea of the instrument! ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out.
