Martin / F9 Conversion 000042 Brazilian Sunburst / 1939 / Guitar

The F9 has the dubious distinction of being rarer, but less valuable, than a pre-war D45, and rarer still because some of the F9s have been converted to flattops like this specific example. At the time these were Martin's top of the line guitars, being even more expensive than a D45. In the end, roughly 72 F9s were made, and of those, folks speculate that only 50 remain in their original form. Some of the ornamental features now associated with Martin flat-tops were in fact originally designed for its archtop instruments. While the vertical 'CF Martin' inlay first appeared in 1931 on the C2 arch top, the hexagon fretboard inlay made its first appearance on the F9 and F7, along with two stripes. And the F-series bodies provided the foundation for today’s M- and J-size guitars. This guitar has been converted to a 000042 style model with abalone purfling and rosette. The refinished Brazilian rosewood back and sides now have a flat Adirondack top which shows a sunburst finish with weather checking. To complete the conversion, it has also gotten a different bridge, tuning machines and binding around the top. The F9 is an historically significant instrument worthy of attention from the most discriminating collector. But besides a collectors item, this is simply also a great sounding guitar. The Brazilian rosewood back and sides give it a full and deep tone; perfect for both strumming and fingerstyle. Comes in a hardshell case. Consignment. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
