It is actually a simulated wood grain or textured design on the HPL material. The HPL material is very durable while still offering a great response."
The neck and nut of the Martin OOCXAE are also made of what appear to be newer synthetic materials respectively. The fingerboard is also made of a synthetic material, as it is also used in the fingerboards of the DX1 and OOOX1. It looks and plays like ebony, but it is apparently also used in some bullet-proof surfaces.
