Maton / Early Custom Shop Colin Hay Owned Prototype / Guitar

This guitar was one of the first if not the first Custom Shop build ever. This is #001 and was built for and played by Colin Hay from Men At Work. He used it for many many years and later returned it to the Maton museum. This Maton is made of Red cedar for the back, sides and the top which gives it a very distinctive and unique tone. Colin used this guitar with the higher octave string from a 12-string set and it is still set up like that but can easily be changed to standard gauges. This is a surprisingly useful setup that really inspires the player and gives another approach to playing. This guitar has been used with some dings but is overall in amazing condition and has a great tone! This Maton is a piece of history and an amazing and inspiring instrument.  Specifications Body Shape: Colin Hay #001 Finish: Natural Body Material: Red Cedar Top Material: Red Cedar Lefty No Body Details: Maple binding Neck Material: Adigbo Neck Profile: C-shape Fingerboard Material: Maple Fingerboard Radius: 12” Neck Details: Mother of Pearl Dot Inlay Nutwidth: 44,5 mm - 1 3/4" Scale Length: 648 mm - 25 1/2" String spacing: 55 mm - 2 3/16" Bridge: Mahogany Tuners: Grover closed back Pickup None Condition: Excellent Cosmetic Condition: Overall very clean, with minor play/scuff marks on the top. some marks on ste sides. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
