Metropolitan / Glendale Deluxe Prototype ** ON HOLD ** / 1996 / Tobacco Sunburst / Guitar
Jake (our guitar luthier extraordinaire) spent some quality time with Ray and I today. You see, Jake is our connection to the street. Just think of Ray and I as Starsky and Hutch and Jake as Huggy Bear, the diabolical pimp from that riveting hit crime drama from the 70s. Not only does Jake setup all of the 'Elk's guitars, but as an added bonus, he tells it like it is, on the "street level". Ray and I must have died back in 1988. We're kinda like that guy who still rocks a fringe jacket and a mullet but nobody told him what decade it was. Do you think anyone pointed out to us that high top Reeboks are out of fashion? We listen to Metallica just about everyday and why not, we love it. Today Jake told us what it is like in the music biz, complete with all the modern vernacular. He used words like "hipster". "Hipster?", I asked and Jake said, "Yeah, these dudes are what you and Ray would call posers back in your day." Then Jake told us about the Indie scene and on how this guitar would be a perfect fit for those guitarists who enjoy such bands as The Black Keys, The White Stripes and The Strokes. As Jake was enlightening Ray and I, my mind drifted. When did it go from Metallica and Megadeth to the Black Keys and White Stripes? Jake went on to tell us that since this guitar is constructed out of African Fakimba wood, coupled with low output pickups, it would be the perfect choice for a guitarist that was inspired by Jack White. After Jake played a few tunes on it, I would have to agree. A band with only a guitarist and a drummer? Interesting concept, but for the love of God, please give me a little "Seek and Destroy". If only I could make the devil horns with words, I would flash them to you out of defiance.. To each his own...
