Montuoro / Grand Concert Style 6 Bear Claw / Guitar
All things considered this instrument looks nothing like a Larson guitar. The aesthetic is much more contemporary. Although the construction is the same. As with all of the guitars I am building, Built under tension. This instrument was designed for a female who was having trouble over the years fitting a guitar to herself. She had felt most larger guitars were a bit too uncomfortable for here frame. So I figured a Grand Concert 14-3/8" lower bout would be perfect. And evidently it is.
When projecting the ideas I had for the guitar I came across a gorgeous set of Bear Claw Sitka. I wanted to make this guitar with more of a feminine elegance. The Bear Claw fit just right with its three dimensional jewel-like appearance. I also wanted to keep most other appointments down to a dull roar. This Allows the figure of the Spruce to be the highlight. As you can see its quite a stunning piece of material.
Indian Rosewood back & sides, Spanish Cedar neck, Ebony board and bridge and my mainstay of Red Spruce bracing gives this smaller guitar an incredibly powerful voice for its size. I also felt that this time around using a 25.34" scale length would better suit her playing style. Much less tension then the 25.59" scale I usually use. And the addition of the flat stiletto heel makes reaching the fingerboard extension a bit easier.
Guitars are like people for sure. They are all so very different. And just like an old friend its best to be paired with someone you can really relate to.
