Musicman / Stingray II / 1977 / Natural / Guitar

Emerging in 1974, Musicman were former Fender Vice President Forrest White, Tom Walker and Leo Fender who was initially a silent partner due to his 10 year non-compete clause signed with CBS following the sale of Fender in 1965. The Stringray guitar and bass were their first offerings, released in 1976. Featuring a two band active eq designed by Tom Walker and many more design elements that later defined Leo’s output with G&L, these guitars were not initially as popular as its four string stable-mate but are a sign post to Leo’s vision for the electric guitar.

The guitar is in good condition. The body shows signs of use and the lacquer has worn in all the expected places on the body.

The neck is in great condition, not showing the same level of wear as the body. There is plenty of life left in the original frets and there is no sign of any modification.

The hardware shows some signs of use though this is not expensive. There is no sign of any pitting or bubbling of the chrome.

The plastics are in good shape and free of any sign of shrinkage and cracking.

Electronically we have one changed pot but elsewhere everything is correct and working well. It also looks like someone has added some tin foil to help with shielding.

The guitar comes with a hardshell case

As with so many guitars of this period, this Stingray is a little weighty though not beyond reason. It's well balanced and feels very comfortable to play. The two band eq and bright switch give you quite a sonic scope and when combined with the unique pickup configuration there are quite a few options to explore.

Something a little different for the collection or maybe the last piece in the puzzle, grab this before it gets away…
