One of our favorite Bass Builders is Carl Thompson from Brooklyn in biz since 1974. One of Carl’s best apprentices over the years was Pete Hilton whom worked for Carl for 12 years from 2001-2013, then Pete moved to Cali to start over completely on his own. I tell ya what…Pete Hilton makes some great stuff ! This example is an early Top of the Line 4-string Bass build while still working for Carl in 2011, finished in a low gloss way to expose the woods natural qualities. I called Pete on this one & he stated “she has a lace wood body core with flamey walnut top & back, a stunning slim padauk neck with bloodwood binding w/a striped ebony fingerboard. She’s sporting a set of Kent Armstrong pickups with pickup selector and high cut/standby switches. Its got a 36” scale & feels incredible. It has a matching set of gorgeous pickup covers, truss rod cover & knobs. Other details include Hipshot Tuners w/a handmade Alloy Bridge & Nut. Its 2 pickups have a very unique funk tone that even Carl’s basses lack. This is the lightest Bass on earth at a scant 6 lbs. 13 oz. Its got great feel & tone. Its truly excellent overall & comes in a nice new hard case. We fell in luv w/this bad boy & I am ordering a 5-string for myself. Grab this one fast !
