The Rickenbacker 381 is the flagship model from the 300 series and has herringbone bindings, a deep semi-hollow body with German carves at the front and back and a uniquely shaped double pickguard. This version, the 381 JK John Kay Limited Edition, was made in small numbers from ’88 to ’91 and was adapted according to JK’s preferences.
The John Kay incorporates elements of the Rickenbacker 381 he used in early Steppenwolf days with additions for active electronics and personalized appointments. The instrument features two HB-1's, Rickenbacker's humbucking pickup, active and passive modes, lead phase switch and a four position rotary switch which offers various combinations of single coil and humbucking pickup configurations. The guitar offers stereo and monaural outputs and includes unique appointments such as silver pickguard, Jetglo finish and silver nameplate.
This 381JK is unsold New Old Stock from our store; it was preserved in storage after it didn’t sell during the early nineties and was recently put on display and offered for sale again. Apart from some very small scratches and dings it’s in as new unplayed condition. The original case and certificate are included with the sale.
