This is our one owner (see picture) 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass with "Big 6" features and its original hardshell case. This is the deluxe two-pickup version of the 4000 model. The neck pickup was added to give greater tonal flexibility and greater bass response. This bass was originally designed for use with flat-wound strings. 1973 was a big year of changes for Ricky's 4001 bass. We scored this earlier one with the desirable "Big" 6 features. This Fireglo beauty stands apart from the other 4001's and for good reason. This 4001 is set-up with a toaster pickup up front and horseshoe pickup in the back. The Rosewood fretboard is decorated with pearl "shark fin" inlays that run its width and date this piece to early '73 before the inlays changed mid-'73. The tuners, Grover sealed-back machines heads, were only used on this bass from '71 to mid'-73. The bound body is decorated with "checkerboard" binding. The guitar shows wear & rash but is structurally sound and ready to be loved. She weighs a cool 8lbs 4oz. The bass comes with its original hardshell case. The case has seen better days but is still 100% useful. Find a better example of one of Ricky's finest and most sought-after basses!
