Der Rickenbacker 4001 C64S ist das Reissue des original Paul McCartney 4001S Basses von 1964. Das auffälligste Merkmal ist der Korpus, der ein komplett neues Shaping erhalten hat. Angeblich waren dem Herrn McCartney die Korpuskanten zu schaftkantig. Nun gut, darüber lässt sich streiten aber angenehmer zu spielen ist er nun schon. Weitere Änderungen betreffen den Reversed Headstock, das Nullbund im Griffbrett, die Horseshoe und Toaster Top Pickups sowie das Tailpiece. Alles in allem entspricht der C64S bis auf kleine Detailverbesserungen (verbesserter Halsstab, modernerer Horseshoe-Pickup, Kondensatorschaltung) McCartneys Original.
Ansonsten bringt der Rickenbacker alle Eigenschaften und vor allem den Sound mit, für den er so berühmt ist. Die Bespielbarkeit lässt dank des durchgehenden Halses und dem damit verbundenen perfekten Hals-Koprus-Übergangs eh keine Wünsche offen. Die Rickenbacker typische Elektronik ist ausgereift und arbeitet sehr effektiv. Über mangelnde Vielseitigkeit braucht man bei diesem C64S keine Worte verlieren.
Dieser Rickenbacker befindet sich in ungespieltem Neuzustand. Gebrauchsspuren sind daher auch mit der Lupe nicht zu finden. Da dieses Modell mittlerweile nicht mehr produziert wird, dürfte es schwierig werden, noch einen C64S in diesem Zustand zu bekommen. Der Neupreis lag damals bei happigen 4700EUR. Hier ist er nun zu einem angemessenen Preis zu bekommen.
