Rickenbacker / 4003, Andy's Fab Gear Run / 2020 / Candy Apple Purple / Bass
Being one of the greatest write-ups for a bass guitar that I have ever read, I asked to borrow it from my boy over at GrinningElk Music, Mr. Lee Jackson. He graciously agreed, so I'll let this description and the pictures tell the tale...
Yeah, there you were, sitting in front of the TV. It’s the '70s—kids sprawled out with a bowl of Captain Crunch and Scooby-Doo on deck, just living the double-live gonzo dream. That’s when J.W. Higgins walked into your here and now.
“Who's that, Lee?” Sheriff J.W. Higgins, of course—the sheriff from those 70s Dodge commercials who couldn’t be convinced that the sporty Challenger R/T was road-legal. That R/T he pulled over was undoubtedly the inspiration for Andy's choice of Candy Apple Purple, AKA Plum Crazy. How’s that for a connection?
That lens itself to this color and Andy's true passion, and you thought it was the Beatles. About this bass? Yeah, I was getting to that.
This 2020 Fab Gear Edition 4003 in Candy Apple Purple is #3 of only 30 limited editions crafted by Rickenbacker for Andy Babiuk's Fab Gear. This isn’t just a bass, it's a homage to that era, that color, and the iconic Challenger R/T that fired up dreams and imaginations.
The checkerboard binding adds a retro touch, echoing the vibrant spirit of Rock 'n' Roll’s golden age. And the push-pull tone knob? It offers a realm of tonal possibilities, letting you craft your sound with precision.
This beauty includes all the usual Rickenbacker case candy, plus a touch of Fab Gear’s unique charm. And, of course, it comes in the original hardshell case because a piece like this deserves nothing less. Clean? That's all I do, people.
In closing, don’t let this chance slip through your fingers. There's only 30 in the world, you know, and how's that, J.W.? “I know a race car when I see one." I hear you, officer, and ease up, Chief. Like Sammy Hagar said, I can't drive 55. Take it away, Sammy.
One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey.
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no.
P.S. If you want to come at me and say. "Hey man, these sold for $2895.00 new." Yep, and in 2009, Apple stock was 6.36 a share. Feel me?
