Sergei De Jonge is a Quebec Canada, based luthier and has earned a great and worldwide reputation for being both a steel string- and classical guitar maker, and is considered one of the utmost important Canadian guitar makers of this era. Sergei, while visiting Dutch relatives visited us recently and presented us with one of his beautiful guitars. This 'Chelsea' in Flamed Hawaiian Koa and Adirondack spruce. His instruments are among the most beautiful & detailed guitars being made these days of a quality that is very rarely found. Meticulous attention to detail and highest quality workmanship are the centre-point of Sergei's guitars. A gorgeous perfectly grained Adirondack spruce top paired to beautiful and stunning flamed hawaiian Koa back and sides, then finished off with an almost 'lacquer' precise Shellac French polish finish. The minimalistic sound-port allows the player a first row seat to the guitars’ wonderful voice.
This guitar is just about 1cm wider and deeper compared to a standard Martin size OM, offering a surplus of punch, power and definition. The comfortable 35mm (1 3/4") neck is paired to a perfect 57mm (2 1/4") string-spacing at the bridge and 650mm Scale length. The Neck profile is a comfortable C profile. This guitar is all about sound. On first stroke you hear it's very special refined instrument, and the open - already broken in- tone reveals the importance of finesse like the use of Shellac instead of Lacquer. It is a powerful sounding grand OM, but this guitar is not all about massive tone and projection, but even more about refinement and definition. A unique sound character, where sweetness and clarity, depth, separation and richness are striking qualities. A remarkable guitar.
This tonally complex Grand OM is a master-work, and an all-around fantastic instrument. Other features include, Ebony fingerboard and bridge, Dark Koa rosette, Moderate C neck profile, Koa binding and multiple purfling in black and white, Koa peghead- and back of the headstock veneer, Bone pins, saddle and nut, Schertler gold tuning machines with ebony knobs. Sergei installed a K&K Pure mini passive PU, with similar output as an active pu. This guitar is stunning work of art that offers an impressive tone for the accomplished player. Included is the Sergei de jonge Tweed case.
