I work with my step father and guitar making extraordinaire Andy Manson. He is truly a master and an excellent teacher.
I have spent my life surrounded by guitars and sawdust. I have known Andy and Hugh Manson since nearly the day I was born. I grew up marvelling at their brilliant work.
From 16 onwards I used to go to the workshop inbetween college and help out with whatever I could. I started working at Hugh Manson's shop when I was 18 years old. I love guitars, playing them, building them, and marveling at the music created with them.
I have been lucky enough during my time at the shop to work with amazing people that have taught me so much. Hugh, Adrian and Jay were all mentors to me and provided me with many different aspects of knowledge as did my colleagues.
I also have been a technician on tour for John Paul Jones, he is an incredible musician, great guy and a true professional. The opportunity to work for John at the Led Zeppelin re union show was one of the highlights of my life, It was an amazing performance and a magical night.
As a guitar maker now, the time in the shop and as a technician was invaluable, I have been able to see and play first hand an incredible array of instruments. Some of them Including legendary guitars such as 57/58/59 Lp's, 50's and 60's strats and teles, Jimmy pages number one LP and the stairway SG double neck, John Paul Jones' collection of multi string monsters and a whole host of other classic guitars including the Manson Muse guitars.
I thoroughly enjoyed being invlolved with Muse and Matthew Bellamy's guitars. From the first Delorean to the launch of the MB1 It was great fun to be a part of Hughs team. To watch some of your friends band grow to become the fantastic musicians they are and now one of the biggest bands in the world is a great feeling. The creativity that Hugh and Matt have captured in the guitars is inspiring.
As well as this education in the timeless greats I had the benefit of seeing a huge number of instruments from current great guitar builders such as PRS, Suhr, Tom Anderson, Tyler, Nik Huber etc.
I have been to amazing state of the art factories such as PRS and I have seen Andy's incredible hand work up close and everything in between. All this has given me an education in building guitars greater than I could have wished for and an immense appreciation of the skill of the hand craftsman.
These instruments I have had the pleasure of playing and studying have given me a deep understanding of what makes a really special guitar. Whatever the unquantifiable magic is, I hear it and feel it. I relish this opportunity to share my guitars with you and hopefully inspire some magic in you as a player.
I understand the customers vision whether its a vintage or modern inspired instrument, beautifully figured wood or a stripped down workhorse or maybe a mixture of all of them !
I am happy to discuss builidng a custom guitar to suit your needs or I have developed some models that cover the tone spectrum based on the classics but with the features a modern player requires.
Each model is customizable to make it personal to you with a variety of options.
I hope you enjoy my work and please send me an email if you want to discuss an instrument further.
