Stella / 12 String / 1929 / Guitar For Sale

Stella Guitars was founded in 1899 by the Oscar Schmidt Company in Jersey City, New Jersey. The brand was known for its affordable yet solid guitars, which were especially popular with blues and folk artists in the early 20th century. In the 1930s, Stella was acquired by Harmony, after which production continued under a different banner. The original Stella guitars, with their signature ladder-braced construction and deep, resonant tone, are now highly sought after by collectors and pre-war blues and folk enthusiasts. One of Stella’s most legendary models is the 12-string version from 1929. This model features a large body, with a solid spruce top and laminated rosewood back and sides. The ladder-braced construction produced a powerful, projecting sound. At the time, 12-string guitars were rare and were primarily played in open tuning, which contributed to their unique, dreamy tone. The Stella 12 String is known for its warm bass, rich harmonics, and long sustain, making it a favorite among blues and folk artists. One of the most famous players of the Stella 12 String was Lead Belly (Huddie Ledbetter), the legendary blues and folk singer. His powerful, raw playing style was perfectly expressed on the Stella, which supported his deep voice and dynamic rhythms. Blind Willie McTell, an influential ragtime and country blues guitarist, also used a Stella 12 String to enhance his complex, melodic fingerpicking style. Other artists who played Stella guitars included Barbecue Bob and later, in the folk revival of the 1960s, Dave Van Ronk and Kurt Cobain, who developed a penchant for vintage Stella models in his later years. This 1929 Stella 12 String is in very good condition for an instrument that is almost a century old! The body and neck show signs of play, but the guitar looks very neat overall. The maple fretboard used to be ebonized, but the color has faded over the years due to playing. One of the previous owners also improvised position markers on it, both on the side of the fretboard and on the ninth fret. The bridge saddle has also been replaced, and a refret has been performed. Nevertheless, this is a very rare and beautiful sounding guitar that will be a great addition to every guitar collection! Consignment.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
