Steve Klein / BF-96 / 1997 / Natural / Guitar
I wish I could have been in Steve Klein's head when he was coming up with his design for this guitar. It is a purely precision machine that is cutting edge- we have immensely enjoyed the experience of detailing, attending to adjustments and playing this Klein. As of this listing, there are four active and six closed guitars with this being the only example with the Steinberger Transtrem. Maybe a custom order?
The JBE hum-single-hum pickup configuration provides a variety of tonal choices that are all crisp and articulate. The five-way selector switch allows you to use single or combined pickup selections that cover several different sonic spectrums and we especially liked the darker and warmer neck pickup setting. That said, switch over to the bridge pickup and you will experience a new level of growl and attitude. The beautifully-grained, chambered Ash body is light and resonant as well.
The frets have been polished and leveled and the fretboard cleaned and oiled. The Transtrem tailpiece was adjusted and checked for proper operation. Again, this is a superior playing guitar that immediately invites you to dig in and stay a while. We finished up by installing a new set of Labella Transposing Tremolo-Calibrated 9's.
There are a few very light surface swirls on the body, but you will have to look for them. This guitar has been very well kept and is a spectacular example of Steve's late-'90s work. Please take a look at the photos, let us know if you have any questions and as always, we thank you for stopping by!
