Stoll Guitars / IQ Hybrid 8-String / 2020 / Natural / Guitar
We offer this hybrid guitar on behalf of a customer. It was finished in August 2020 and hardly played. Its condition can therefore be described as mint. If you are interested, you may check it out in New York. Contact details will be provided by us. Reason for the sale is a reorientation of the guitarist. We are currently building the same model as a 7-string for the customer.
Hybrid 5+3
8-string comfort steelstring guitar IQ with five steel strings and three bass strings in mint condition. Excellent for advanced fingerpicking and guitar maniacs for whom the low end of a conventional steel string guitar is not enough. Pickups can be retrofitted.
Hybrid Sound
This exceptional steel string guitar impresses with a remarkable volume. The tone is balanced and sounds evenly loud over the entire fingerboard. It responds to the player with lightning speed and rewards his efforts with soft present highs. The bass strings accompany the steel strings with a rich tone and add volume without pushing their way into the foreground.
Thanks to the experience of 40 years of guitar building, we were able to turn the customer's ideas of a hybrid guitar into a really playable and excellent sounding instrument.
Hybrid Playability
With eight strings, you have to be careful so that the neck width can still be managed by the fretting hand and can be picked cleanly at the same time. With a width of 55 mm and a diagonal of 64 mm, we have implemented this appropriately.
To make the playing feel as comfortable as possible with this hybrid eight-string, the fingerboard was equipped with fanned frets.
An armrest serves to relieve the forearm. The pressure is better distributed, preventing possible irritation of the nerve pathways. The bevel is also good against tension in the arm and neck.
The Wood
For back and sides of this steelstring guitar we used Indian Walnut. The headstock and rosette are also made of this wood, with the latter additionally featuring a maple purfling. Tail purfling, fingerboard, bridge and bindings were made of Indian Ebony. The top is made of Sitka Spruce.
Machines / Strings
The headstock is equipped with Schaller tuners 5:3. Model M4 was used for the bass strings, M6 minis move the steel strings. For the bass strings we used Tru Bass RS88 shortscales by Rotosound. They are threaded to the bridge, the steel strings are Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 .012 and are attached with pins as usual.
