Toon Guitars / Montpellier Jazz / High Gloss / Guitar

 Montpellier Jazz

I designed this guitar to achieve the sound of both the Oval hole Selmer guitar and also the D hole Macaferri guitar in one guitar depending on the strength with which the strings are played. This also allows the Montpellier guitar to be versatile for other jazz styles. The guitar has a modern feel with a comfotable "C" profile neck and is equipped with 24 frets joining the body at the 14th. The offset elliptical soundhole combined with the open bracing system gives this guitar a tremendous volume and tone. The guitar produces clear ringing trebles with a sharp attack, smooth balanced bass and also a great sustain when required. The Montpellier guitar is played and also endorsed by John Etheridge(Sweet Chorus) and Blake Wilner (the Puppini Sisters and Blake Wilner Group). You can hear the Montpellier guitar on the album "Small Hotel" by John Etheridge - Sweet Chorus

Welcome to the Toon Guitars website here on VintageandRare featuring hand-made guitars by Steve Toon.

For some 25 years I have been building Classical guitars and more recently Jazz  and Steel String guitars alongside a career as a consultant and project engineer in the woodworking industry. In 2006 I decided to concentrate on building guitars as my full time career.

I was first attracted to the guitar by its versatile sound and its simple beauty. The guitar's sound is also capable of being extremely aggressive and strong, powerful and passionate or light and tender. My mission is to produce the finestguitars combining the best musicality with pleasing aesthetics, constructed by hand from the highest quality materials.

"A perfect piece of art"

Guitars

I build acoustic guitars by hand using the finest quality materials which have aged in my wood store for many years. Mostly I build Nylon string guitars but in recent years have added to the portfolio of products with Acoustic Jazz guitars, and small size Steel String guitars.

I apply the same thought and construction ethos to all my guitars.

I want to achieve an instrument which has a clear, focussed sound with a wide palette of tone colour. My preference is for natural materials and clean lines. I aim for the highest standards of workmanship and attention to detail.

I believe that it is important for the person owning one of my guitars to be able to sense the workmanship and passion that I put into each guitar and to know that each instrument is also as special to me as I hope it is to them.
