Vox / Apollo V271 Mk.IV Bass / 1967 / Cherry Finish / Bass
These Early Vox Basses were built between 1961-1967 by Jennings Musical Industries (JMI) in the UK, with Italian manufacturer EKO being brought in to help with the huge demand from the US market from 1965 until 1969. This example is just about perfect condition w/its Cherry Red finish showing only slight wear. Its bound/dot Rosewood fingerboard is on a 5-piece maple neck & is super slim as we say “like a Golf Club” . These have a large “VOX” logo & a really cool back pad hiding its electronics. Its single coil pickup has a very unique sound & its groovy white pickgard pulls it all together. All Vox Apollo Basses featured active electronics powered by a nine volt battery for Distortion (“Dance to the Music”) and Treble/Bass Boost (“Happy Jack”) effects and a 440 Hz LC controlled “E-Tuner” circuit which crossfades with the Volume Control knob and that Vox Distortion and active Boost. It was available in Sunburst or Cherry finishes. She’s dead original & exceptionally clean overall & comes w/its original Vox key fob in its original shaped hard case.
