Vox / Phantom IV / 1964 / Black / Bass
This piece being offered was owned by the late Jim Ellison of Material Issue (Chicago, IL). We are honored to be able to list several pieces from his extensive collection.
One of Vox's most iconic bass designs, the Vox Phantom IV was introduced in 1963 and features two single-coil pickups, volume and tone controls, and a unique five-sided body. This is the very rare JMI UK made version only built for two years before productions changed to Italy by 1965 an ultimately end in 69'. The earlier English-made basses are more sought-after. To quote "The Vox Story": "The overall feel of the instrument, with its easily played neck, substantial weight, and good physical balance, was reminiscent of the best American solids, while the styling seemed to attract the evidently more open-minded guitarist of the mid-1960's". You gotta love that! German style Schaller tuners work great and keep the instrument finely tuned. As you can see, the body exhibits some wear and checking but is in overall good and sound condition. This purchase comes with its original hardshell case and a Material Issue sticker from their former label, Mercury Records. Weighs 8lbs 3oz. Has a nut width of 1.753" and 7.25" radius.
