"George was a very generous person. In 1986, he decided to commission Tony to build a few guitars They were going to be acoustic guitars, but George wanted them to be even more special. After discussions with Tony, they decided to call the guitars “Thames Valley Specials”. The design would be strictly a limited edition of five acoustics. Tony asked Danny O’Brien to write out a certificate to accompany each of the guitars. It stated that “The sound hole decoration will never be repeated identically, except at the express wish of the certificate holders”.
Tony said George was very excited about the guitars. George wrote to Tony about the guitars.
“Tony, In a rush to get this to you – It’s a guess at a deposit on the Thames Valley Specials – and we’ll sort it out when I see you on the designs. At least you can go get the timber (if it is still available?). Will call mid week – till then all the best George. P.S. Deluxe Customs ??? Sounds good!! Lucky boys!”
You can feel George’s excitement in the letter. Tony kept the letter stuck on his workshop wall.
