Rudy Q. Jones / Squareneck Dobro / 1977 / Guitar

1977 Rudy Q. Jones squareneck walnut Dobro guitar. Serial no. 0677.

This dobro is a squareneck traditional spider type with back, sides and top of the most beautyfull solid black walnut with gold hardwear and original gold Kluson De Luxe Tuners. 12 fret ebony fretboard with mother of pearl inlays and white bindings. Bone nut.  Only few knics and some relic on the coverplate. But all in very nice and original condition. Beautyfull mother of pearl logo on the slotted head.

This dobro includes a new Quarterman QD-110 cone (the original will be included too) and Beard spider and a very expensive (700 euros) Headway active saddle piezo pick up system with a brazilian rosewood saddle. TKL hardcase.

The sound has bright, crispy tops and very clear and powerfull bastones with lots of sustain. Maybe because of the open soundwell construction that has become popular today among the high quality builders.

This dobro were made in Wanette, Oklahoma during Rudy`s prime building years in the mid to late 70`s. The story goes that Rudy bought a large log of Ozark Black Walnut that had already been sitting in an elderly farmers barn for several decades. Rudy then rigged up a contraption consisting of multiple microwave ovens and further desiccated the wood. He quickly became wellknown for the high quality and several famous dobro players like Josh Graves and Jerry Douglas play RQ Jones dobros. Not many where build and they have become seldom on the marked with prices around US$ 5000 in the US.
